Peculiarities of Nanostructured Fabrics for Operation Under Thermal Impact
    (2024) Skliarenko, Nataliia
The article considers the urgent issue of developing protective clothing for work in adverse conditions during ultra-high heat exposure. As found, the heat-protective military clothing insufficiently provides the necessary preservation and impedes the calculation of the maximum effective time of protective action under severe operating conditions. As shown, the nanotechnology in the creation of modern textile materials tends to grow in accessibility from the economic and technological point of view. Therefore, new capabilities have emerged for modelling technological processes carried out at the nanoscale level. The advancement of this area is fostered by the growing demand for the latest materials with fundamentally new properties. This up-to-date approach is being applied and further developed in the research laboratories of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. As confirmed, in multilayer clothing, the amount of air layers between individual layers of materials is insignificant. In addition, the amount of air layers in the garment package, rather than in the package of materials of the corresponding garment components, is found to be more significant. This is the factor being relied upon in the development of complex types of overalls for critical applications. Design and practical approaches to the creation of effective thermal protective packages applying modern textile materials of the ‘advanced textiles’ class are proposed in order to reveal the possibilities of creating critical components and elements of clothing as a starting point for the development of types of heat-protective clothing

Research on an intelligent fan cultural sustainability design method based on CPO-CNN-LSSVM
    (Springer Nature, 2026) Skliarenko, Nataliia
The integration of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) into innovative products is a key focus in the intersection of culture and technology. This study addresses the core challenge of balancing cultural authenticity with functional requirements in smart home systems, using the household smart fan as a case study centered on Miao ethnic culture. To this end, we developed a hybrid methodology: the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) was first applied to quantify user emotional needs and Miao cultural style weights. Fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (FQFD) then translated these needs into critical design features. Finally, the Crested Porcupine Optimizer-Convolutional Neural NetworkLeast Squares Support Vector Machine (CPO-CNN-LSSVM) algorithm was employed to model the complex, nonlinear relationships and predict optimal design solutions. Our results demonstrate that this integrated approach effectively identifies culturally significant design features that align with user emotions, ensuring that products meet functional demands while embodying cultural value. The proposed framework offers a sustainable and systematic pathway for cultural inheritance through smart product innovation.

Regional Innovative Design Strategies in the Shaping of Urban Visual Image in Shandong Province
    (2026) Skliarenko, Nataliia
The article analyses regional strategies for designing the visual image of cities in Shandong Province. It proves that there is a need for a design approach aimed at promoting the level of artistic construction in cities, refining their image, and strengthening inter-city connections. Against the backdrop of increasing multi-city connectivity in the region, it is reasonable to form a visual image of the city in a broader spatial context. This study adopts an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on the holistic and synergistic way in which public art and architecture landscapes play out and form a synergy of design as important visual elements in urban spaces, within a regional perspective. This paper argues that existing research often studies public art separately from architecture landscapes, and focuses primarily on the separate design expressions of these two in case urban spaces. However, there is still a lack of a systematic design discussion at the regional level that focuses on the synergistic relationship that the two play in the city’s visual image. Considering these factors, this paper develops a synergistic public art-architecture landscape design model that can act on a regional scale from the standpoint of the spatial pattern of multi-cities coexisting in Shandong Province. Three major metropolitan areas of the province were considered as spatial objects of design analysis, and their design manifestations were studied. The three design strategies in the model, Structural Order-Oriented type, Landscape Narrativity-Oriented type and Adaptive Growth-Oriented type. They support each other and act as the core level influencing the way the inputs and outputs of the upper and lower levels are produced. Research indicates that this model can integrate the regional synergistic relationship between public art and architecture landscapes within a unified framework. These types of design strategies ensure the formation of an urban visual image in different environments, providing new ideas for regionalisation and systematic design of the urban visual image

Features of the Collaborative Design of Text and Icons in Signage for Child-Friendly Spaces
    (2026) Skliarenko, Nataliia
This paper takes the collaborative relationship between text and icons in signage for child-friendly spaces as its research object, focusing on sign design in children’s hospitals, children’s libraries, children’s museums, and related public service and play environments. Unlike existing studies, which have largely approached the issue from a single perspective such as children’s cognition, environmental wayfinding, text readability, or icon recognizability, this study regards text and icons as interactive elements within the same unit of information. From the perspective of their collaborative relationship, it examines their combined role in spatial recognition, information comprehension, and experiential guidance in children’s spaces. The study adopts a combination of case analysis, comparative analysis, and visual induction, and constructs an analytical framework consisting of the formal dimension, semantic dimension, and guidance dimension. On this basis, a comparative study was conducted on nine representative cases of signage in child-friendly spaces. The findings show that the interaction between text and icons in such signage can be mainly summarized into three types: confirmation-oriented, semantic-cohesive, and experience-participatory. These correspond respectively to three core needs: rapid recognition, stable understanding, and active approach. Overall, effective collaboration is not primarily manifested in the synchronized formal transformation of text and icons at the level of visual styling, but rather in a configurational form of collaboration. In this relationship, text provides a stable framework for reading and hierarchical order, while icons assume the functions of differentiated identification, semantic cueing, and situational participation. This study provides an analytical and practiceoriented research framework for the design of signage in child-friendly public spaces, and also offers a reference for optimizing text organization, icon configuration, and text–image relationships in contemporary children’s spaces

Conceptual Foundations of the Design of Multimodal Symbolic Systems for Children’s Spaces
    (2026) Skliarenko, Nataliia
Purpose. This article clarifies the conceptual foundations for designing multimodal symbolic systems in children’s spaces. It interprets the Perception–Action– Feedback (PAF) cycle as a design structuring logic and uses that logic to explain how visual, tactile, and auditory cues can work together as one spatial communication system. The aim is to show how multimodal cues can be organized coherently in child-centred environments. Methodology. The study adopts a systematic design-research approach that combines conceptual analysis, a synthesis of recent work on multimodal wayfinding and experiential graphic design, and a comparative reading of built cases. Three documented cases from museum and healthcare settings are examined to map how cue hierarchy, spatial sequencing, and confirmation mechanisms are structured through the PAF lens. The analysis is interpretive and design-oriented rather than experimental. Results. The article defines multimodal symbolic systems as spatial communication infrastructure and frames multimodality as coordinated cue organization rather than simple sensory layering. It develops a design-oriented reading of PAF in which perception supports identity and legibility, action supports movement and decision-making, and feedback supports confirmation and recovery. From this, the study derives a concise set of design implications and shows, through three cases, how the framework can be used to compare system organization across different children’s environments. Scientific novelty. The study reinterprets PAF as a design logic for multimodal symbolic systems and brings together a system-based account of identity, legibility, sequencing, and confirmation in children’s spaces. It also shifts discussion away from isolated cue variables toward the coordinated organization of symbolic environments. Practical relevance. The study offers a design-oriented framework that can support the planning and evaluation of multimodal symbolic systems in children’s spaces. Its results may be useful for designers, educators, museum planners, and healthcare professionals involved in shaping child-centered environments, particularly when organizing cue hierarchy, route sequencing, and confirmation mechanisms across different spatial settings.

Digital Transformation of Chinese Traditional Textiles: the Practice of Creating Generative Design Systems
    (2026) Skliarenko, Nataliia
This paper proposes a practice-based framework for the digital transformation of Chinese traditional textile patterns. A methodological approach that combines digital tools with semiotic logic is outlined for heritage design patterns’ re-interpretation in contemporary practice-based design contexts. The approach fulfils a need for generative design and cultural relevance. This study employs computational design methodologies in conjunction with design semiotics to develop digital models which transform traditional patterns into a developed grammar of form through a process of computational deconstruction and encodement. The research is presented through a series of case studies which explore the methodology’s feasibility, generative potential and cultural integrity. Expert interviews and a visual preference test validate findings drawn from the research. The research results from the utilization of a parametric methodology in the design of patterns, generated with specific structural rules and varied by specific variables. The results show how technology was utilized in the culturally sensitive design for the local cultural user, more importantly the results show the enormous diversity of designs that can be generated whilst still working within the cultural remit and cultural user needs. This study develops a systematic generative approach to textile design, moving traditional and time-consuming manual replication to a computational method of design synthesis. Most importantly, novelty of this research is in establishing a connection between semiotic encoding of cultural data and parametric modelling for generation of modern textiles that function according to the logic of the culture studied. The framework provides an efficient, scalable toolkit for the fashion and digital media industries to revitalize traditional motifs. It resolves the conflict between cultural authenticity and design efficiency, offering a replicable model for the sustainable digital preservation and creative industrialization of intangible cultural heritage in a global context.

Model of Transforming Traditional Cultural Symbols into Dynamic Visual Images in the Design of Museum Mobile Application Interfaces
    (2026) Skliarenko, Nataliia
Amid the digital revolution, the rapid proliferation of mobile technology has opened up new possibilities for the digital transformation of museums. As vital platforms for user experience, cultural dissemination, and public education, museum mobile applications use digital interfaces to deliver rich cultural resources to a broader audience. Against this backdrop, dynamic visual imagery with its unique expressiveness and interactivity, has become a core element connecting traditional cultural symbols with user perception. Through the use of animation, video, and other dynamic visual techniques, these symbols are infused with new vitality, significantly enhancing the aesthetic appeal and artistic quality of the interface. At the same time, dynamic visual imagery creates immersive interactive experiences that stimulate users’ curiosity and interest in learning, while evoking emotional resonance, thereby enabling the reshaping and continuation of traditional cultural symbols within a digital context. Consequently, this study focuses on the innovation and optimization of museum application interface design, exploring how to transform traditional static cultural symbols into vibrant dynamic visual imagery. Starting from the principles of symbol transformation and combining literature reviews with case studies, the study systematically distills three key principles: cultural identity, narrative immersion, and emotional resonance. Building upon this foundation, the study innovatively constructs a design model comprising three layers: the Aesthetic Expression Layer, the Technical Interaction Layer, and the Emotional Experience Layer. This model serves as a systematic, interdisciplinary design framework grounded in semiotics, interaction design, and emotional psychology. It establishes a design pathway that progresses from the visual translation of traditional cultural symbols to the dynamic activation of interactive mechanisms, and ultimately to a deep emotional connection with users. It provides systematic theoretical support and design insights for the dynamic transformation of museum application interface design.
